In the summer of 2020, Latvian Passenger Railways had made the news for patenting the name "Vivi", and it was announced they would be changing their branding and name. Upon seeing the news, I took this project simply for fun, seeing what I was able to create in a quick time frame.
I began the project like any other, sketching and brainstorming as much as possible, creating more than 50 logos, ranging between styles. I finally had to decide which mark fit the brand the closest.
Creating the most fitting design language for the product was my main goal of the project. Logos need to fit into their environment and be recognisable to be effective. Following this principle, I made sure the logo used only very simple curves and shapes, remaining easy on the eyes. The curvy ends of the "V" and "I" letters have a modern look, as this logo needs to ensure looking modern and future-proof, as it would theoretically be placed on critical infrastructure. Something else I wanted to include very explicitly was legibility. Previous sketches of the logo were more abstract, however, as this was a logo for a piece of infrastructure that may need to be recognised and understood quickly, I ensured the word "Vivi" is readable instantly. Especially once a connection with the company or its services has been made, the logo cannot be misread, and will always be quickly taken into account in any context and usage.
